Columnists, Moeletsi Mbeki and Peter Vale recently made an observation in an article on the Mail and Guardian website (http://www.mg.co.za/article/2009-10-28-community-is-the-new-state): "We are the generation that is rewriting the script of Sourthern Africa..."

The choices made by us, the young generation of South Africa are going to affect the future of the country. The scars of years of identity politics, racism and ideological domination still mark the tender skin of our generation. While it is still relevant and neccesary to talk about the issues of the past, we need to start thinking of solutions.

Coolpolitics South Africa believes what Mbeki and Vale so aptly describe, "we are rewriting the script" of our country and working towards a better ending. In short, Coolpolitics South Africa wants to be part of this process and inspire others to do the same.

Our organisation aims to provide avenues through which the youth can speak, hear others and grow in their understanding of political and broader issues.  We want to remind them that their contribution matters and they are key roleplayers in building South Africa and Africa.

Coolpolitics South Africa stands for freedom of expression and cultivating a culture of critical thinking people who ask questions, actively seek the answers and act on their convictions.

It might be easier to stand by and just watch what is happening...but it is also dangerous. Young South Africans and Africans need to become agents of change in their country and on their continent if Africa is to rise up and take its place in the world.
